Denbies Vineyard Tour & Wine Tasting - Limited availability

Denbies Wine Estates South East England is the fertile home for three quarters of the UK’s wine production and we’re fortunate enough to have one such vineyard right here in the Surrey Hills – along with a charming restaurant and a gift shop full of tempting goodies.

Surrounded by stunning scenery, it’s easy to understand why Denbies became a favourite coffee haunt for actress Virginia McKenna and other celebrities. One of the most prized post-lockdown days out on offer.

Following an indoor winery tour, guests can take an outdoor vineyard trip using the quaint in-house electric train with also a little al-fresco courtyard wine tasting.

Denbies’ wines are produced from a variety of grapes suited to cool-climate wine production and classic varieties such as Pinot Noir and Chardonnay but half of Denbies’ wine production is devoted to producing the most tempting sparkling wines.

Treat yourself to a day full of beautiful scenery and interesting discoveries in wine-making. Cameras are recommended.

What a great experience! We'd been waiting for it to happen as we booked during lockdown so there was a huge expectation. The wine tour certainly surpassed our expectations from the film with accompanying glass of sparkling wine to the extremely informative and interesting talk by Mona in the cellar.

We visited this vineyard one Sunday afternoon. The weather was perfect, the wine tasty and the views over the Vineyard into neighbouring areas were amazing. We went for a tour via the train.

Silent Pool Distillery & Gin Tasting - Limited availability

Silent Pool DistillersIf a day focussed purely on nature in our lovely part of Surrey is more to your liking, this breath-taking former chalk quarry, fed by underground springs which were a precious source of clean water in days gone by, is now a little place of peace and almost eerie beauty adored by the discerning, nature-loving visitor. Be intrigued by the Silent Pool legend involving a woodcutter’s daughter and a prince.

This tranquil beauty spot is now home to the Silent Pool Gin Distillery. You can take a 90-minute gin experience tour, where staff explain how Silent Pool Gin first came to life, as well as offering some history on how gin was originally made and how, over hundreds of years, it remained popular, and is in still demand right up to the present day.

The Silent Pool staff will describe why their unique blend of 24 botanicals makes their tipple the very best. At the end of your day, you can decide upon that for yourself by sampling a little of what is on offer – you could say, gin-credible! An optional extra is the chance to buy one of the beautiful Copa glasses for £12 and use it for a G&T on arrival by adding just 50p – total price £12:50.

Beautiful pools and crystal clear. Recent work was done improving the footpaths and the quality of water. A real idyllic atmosphere. Plenty of free parking nearby with great walks too.

Leonardslee Lakes and Gardens

Leonardslee Lakes & GardensVenerated quite simply as, ‘The most spectacular spring woodland gardens in England’, Leonardslee Lakes & Gardens opened its doors after a closure of 10 years, now also boasting a pinotage vineyard and a Michelin Star restaurant.

This magnificent Grade I listed garden was nearly lost forever and has been the subject of the largest garden restoration in England and possibly Europe.

The estate is not only beautiful, it’s home to an extraordinary range of wildlife including foxes, rabbits, grey squirrels, badgers, weasels, stoats, shrews, voles, and its now famous albino wallabies and there’s (perhaps quite rightly) an Australian Garden too.

Enjoy a quintessentially English Afternoon Tea in the Italianate Mansion.

If by any chance a fascination with things smaller is for you, take the time to see the astonishingly intricate Beyond The Dolls’ House exhibition, complete with a 1:12 model-sized display of an Edwardian estate and neighbouring villages

What a wonderful day out, I had no idea this beautiful oasis existed in the middle of Sussex! You can easily spend a few hours exploring the gardens, but the Mansion House was truly special.
